Equipment targeted by the new requirement

As of June 1, 2007, you will have to hold an H2 environmental qualification certificate in order to install, service, repair or modify equipment in this category that uses halocarbons.

Example:

  • fire extinguishing systems with tanks linked to pipes

Trades targeted by the new requirement

  • Pipe fitter, sprinkler fitter specialization
    Certificate of qualification or apprenticeship booklet issued by Emploi-Québec
  • Fire protection engineer
    Apprentice or journeyman competency certificate issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ)
    Note: The Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) issues environmental qualification certificates to workers in trades for which it is responsible.

Length of validity of the H2 certificate

Your environmental qualification certificate is valid for your full career. The Regulation makes no provision for renewing this document.

Criteria for obtaining an H2 certificate

To obtain an H2 environmental qualification certificate, you must hold one of the following attestations of training:

  • Attestation of training on halocarbons, fire extinguishers category, recognized by Emploi-Québec, given by a school board (seven hours);
  • Attestation of training on halocarbons, fire extinguishers category, given by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) (seven hours);
  • Valid Manitoba Ozone Protection Industry Association (MOPIA) card.

Note: As of September 2006, the vocational diploma (DEP) program for fire protection engineers will include the necessary environmental module to obtain an environmental qualification certificate.

How to obtain halocarbon training for the H2 certificate

If you have not completed any of the training courses required to obtain an environmental qualification certificate, you will have to enrol with a school board that offers the seven-hour training course recognized by Emploi-Québec.

You will have to pay a registration fee.

Note: Training on the use of halocarbons, fire extinguishers category, will be offered starting in the spring of 2006.

How to apply to Emploi-Québec for a certificate

  1. Download the application form for an environmental qualification certificate
  2. Complete the application form and send it to the address shown below along with the following documents:
    • a photocopy of your vocational qualification certificate or apprenticeship card;
    • a photocopy of your attestation of successful completion of halocarbon training recognized by Emploi-Québec;
    • a cheque or money order for $30, made out to the
      Minister of Finance of Québec.
