Equipment targeted by the new requirement

As of June 1, 2008, you will have to hold an H1 environmental qualification certificate in order to install, service, repair or modify equipment in this category that uses halocarbons.

Examples:

  • compressors
  • industrial air conditioning systems
  • chillers

Trades targeted by the new requirement

  • Pipe fitter, refrigeration specialty
    Certificate of qualification or apprenticeship card issued by Emploi-Québec
  • Stationary engineer, refrigerating equipment
    Certificate of qualification or apprenticeship card issued by Emploi-Québec
  • Refrigeration specialist (journeyman and apprentice)
    Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ)
    Note: The Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) issues environmental qualification certificates to workers in trades for which it is responsible.

Length of validity of the H1 certificate

Your environmental qualification certificate is valid for your full career. The Regulation makes no provision for renewing this document.

Criteria for obtaining an H1 certificate

To obtain an H1 environmental qualification certificate, you must hold one of the following attestations of training:

  • Attestation of training on halocarbons, refrigerating apparatus category, recognized by Emploi-Québec, given by a school board (seven hours);
  • Vocational diploma (DEP) in refrigeration or module 300053 “Use and recovery of refrigerants” obtained after January 1, 1995;
  • Attestation of training on halocarbons organized by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ);
  • Valid Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card issued by the Government of Ontario;
  • Valid Manitoba Ozone Protection Industry Association (MOPIA) card.
  • Attestation issued by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society for training successfully completed after January 1, 1994;
  • Attestation issued by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada for training successfully completed after January 1, 1994;

How to obtain training on halocarbons for certificate H1

If you have not completed any of the training on hydrocarbons required to get your environmental qualification certificate, you must sign up with one of the school boards providing the seven-hour training recognized by Emploi-Québec.

Registration fees will be requested.

How to apply to Emploi-Québec for a certificate

  1. Download the application form for an environmental qualification certificate
  2. Complete the application form and send it to the address shown below along with the following documents:
    • a photocopy of your vocational qualification certificate or apprenticeship card;
    • a photocopy of your attestation of successful completion of halocarbon training recognized by Emploi-Québec;
    • a cheque or money order for $30, made out to the
      Minister of Finance of Québec.
